A Warm Welcome to You from Concerned Citizens of Russell!

Did You Know?

Burlington Vermont hosts McNeil Station, a 50MW wood-burning biomass plant similar to Russell Biomass. After many years of problems, Plant Manager John Irving Reported, "It is best to site a biomass plant…far from residential neighborhoods." See Lessons Learned From Existing Biomass Plants.

Reports from McNeil's neighbors describe nauseating stack emissions, unbearable noises, vibrations, pungent vinegar-ammonia-like odors from fermenting woodpiles, spontaneous combustion in the woodpiles, intolerable concentrations of fugitive dust from the woodpiles, costly litigation, regular meetings between neighbors and McNeil management with no resolution, difficulty acquiring documents from the state, clear cutting of forests, and so forth. Did You Know?

Russell Biomass would have the following impacts:
  • Weekdays, one semi-tractor-trailer diesel truck up to 75 feet long would pass by every four minutes on Route 20 and down the narrow Main Street of a densely settled historical village: 840 truck passes a week.

  • Over 1600 tons of air pollutants would be released daily about 600 feet from the nearest home, about 1000 feet from a daycare center and 1600 feet from the Russell Elementary School.

  • Weather inversions in Russell can stagnate air and increase health risks from air pollution. Air pollution can be deadly.

  • Russell Biomass would take 800,000 gallons from a beautiful scenic river that has been experiencing historically unprecedented drought conditions, returning 100,000 gallons warm and polluted and evaporating the rest.

Do You Know Who is going to put a stop to it?

You are! And we are going to help you!
